It’s All about the Dogs

We are SO excited to announce our Big Red Bus!

One of the biggest scheduling issues we had at our previous locations was juggling 5-6 individual drivers both weekend days, AM and PM every week. When I say we, that should read: ME. I actually had a few nightmares during our excruciating buildout process about what transport was going to look like once we finally have all 14 kennels. So, the search was on to find something that could work to simplify the process and also make it easier for the PACC volunteers and staff for loading and unloading the dogs each day. We will be installing the kennels that the dogs will ride back and forth in over the next two weeks before we re-open!

We have an amazing volunteer and their spouse who helped us with some of the funds we needed to purchase this big red beast when it was available, and we used some of our funds to cover the balance. Now we’re hoping you can help us replenish those funds which will cover our operating expenses as we get ready to open our doors in a couple of weeks!

We are so excited about all the wonderful new changes and improvements for PACC’s dogs who are lucky enough to come spend some time at TRN. I’ll be sharing some announcement info shortly, and then it’s ON!

Here’s the link, please share our post to help us reach even more folks:

Thank you for your help, we can’t wait to get things going again!

Remember how just a few weeks back we were so excited to announce we were going to have a second store opening soon? Well, as often happens in the retail and animal welfare worlds, things can unexpectedly change. We were hoping to have what comes next locked down prior to this post, but we really need to get the info out about this week. Besides, we’re very close to finalizing things, so please read on.

Originally, our current location at La Encantada was to become the small dogs’ destination for PACC pups. Unfortunately, we were among the tenants at the shopping center who were recently given our 30 days to vacate notice. To facilitate the incoming tenant’s needs, we must be moved out no later than August 31st. Our final week is this weekend, Thursday the 17th to Sunday the 20th, from 11am to 3pm each day. The remainder of the month will be packing and moving, hopefully straight into our next location. Please keep your fingers crossed for us that it all works out as we are hoping!

We have enjoyed our last four years at La Encantada and have met some truly wonderful folks. We look forward to seeing our TRN family in our new place in September!

We hope to have our doors open in our new location by the second week of September (or sooner if possible). As soon as the lease is signed, we will post our new location and expected grand opening date.

As John always used to say, “It’s all about the dogs!” He may be gone, but our mission continues and we are expanding! We will be able to have a lot more dogs, both big and small, in our new location, while keeping the flavor that is exclusively TRN. We are honored to be able to continue to bring dogs and people together, while helping PACC to find homes for the thousands of dogs who end up in their care each year. Lots of great things are coming, so stay tuned for it all here on our Facebook and web pages!

John Gilbert “JG”

If you look up into the sky tonight there will be a new star shining brightly in the heavens and it is shining on senior dogs everywhere. In the early morning of Tuesday June 16th, the driving force that was TRN, John Gilbert passed away from complications after heart surgery. We can’t even begin to do justice here to the amazing person that John was to so many of us. Whether it be directly through TRN or his time volunteering at PACC or indirectly through his passion and encouragement to you to take on a senior dog, John made a difference in a lot of people’s lives and that of the dogs he loved. As we are struggling to come to terms with this news, we will continue to work with the legacy that John has left behind. Thank you for all the amazing support and words of encouragement.

Tucson Rescue Now is dedicated to adopting Senior Dogs into happy and loving homes. We bring senior dogs from local shelters to our adoption site at the La Encantada shopping center.

We are different.
Our dogs are not in kennels, they are in large playpens with couches. They can relax and be their normal, at-home selves. They get love, attention, treats, and sometimes massages. They go on walks around the mall to meet folks, and they sometimes sit on a couch just outside our front door to soak in some Tucson sun.

We are independent.
Our dogs are from local shelters but we do not receive financial support from shelters or animal welfare organizations.

We are community-driven.
Small and large donations from visitors and sponsors keep our doors open. We are a 501c3 nonprofit organization, so your donations may be tax-deductible. Our community of passionate volunteers keeps the big wheel turnin’.

We are dog-people.
If you are too, please visit us! You will meet some cool, very sweet, sometimes spoiled, senior dogs looking for their next home. Our environment is fun and positive for both dogs and visitors. You will not feel sad here, you will feel uplifted. If you like what we are doing, you can help by making a donation at the store.
